About

10minutes.fun is a collection of small web toys built for one purpose: to be entertaining for roughly ten minutes and then let you get on with your day.

The idea

Most of the web wants something from you. An account, a subscription, an email address, your attention on a schedule someone else set. This site wants none of that. Every toy here opens instantly, explains itself in about five seconds, and works without you signing up for anything or installing anything.

There are 25 toys planned in total and 6are live right now. A new one ships roughly every week. Some of them are genuinely useful, like a reaction time test you can benchmark yourself against. Most of them are useless on purpose.

How it is built

Static HTML, plain CSS, and vanilla JavaScript, generated with Astro and hosted on a free tier. There is no backend, no database, and no login system, which means there is very little to go wrong and nothing of yours sitting on a server somewhere.

Your scores, streaks, and personal bests live in your own browser's local storage. They never leave your device, they are not synced anywhere, and clearing your browser data clears them permanently. That is the whole architecture. See the privacy page for the specifics.

How it pays for itself

Advertising, eventually. The plan is a small number of clearly labelled ad slots placed outside the part of the page you actually came to use — never inside a test area, a canvas, or a button. If an ad ever gets in the way of a toy, the ad is in the wrong place and I would genuinely like to hear about it via the contact page.

Who makes it

One person, building one toy a week as a side project. Suggestions, bug reports, and complaints about your reaction time are all welcome.
